I have also used mineral oil (pure, from the drugstore...in the laxative section :P) with great success. I have only used it on the oboe joints as of now, because I use the chudnow staples which don't have cork. However, I don't see why it couldn't be applied to staples. I use a key oiler to apply the oil.
