Well, i started to double when i made my region orchestra and band on english horn. At first, i was mostly practicing english horn to get ready for auditions. Switching to and from instruments really messed me up. I would play english horn all weekend and have to play oboe in band the next day. The only thing that helped me was practicing swhitching. i had to play a couple of scales on an instrument and then switch. As for the reeds, i just remembered what each reed felt like and i tried to adjust when i started to play. You just have to remember what you need to do to get a good sound out of the instrument you are playing. In the beginning, my oboe embouchure suffered a little, but after i got the hang of what to look forward to, both embouchures improved drastically.
