Reading or browsing through all the posts on this board, you see a lot of discussions on playing style, vibrato, tone quality, dark/bright/sharp/full/broad sound, preferred players etc.
It has struck me that what we could really use is a single webpage, with samples of oboists mentioned from time to time. This could function as a reference, so when fx. someone is discussing or referencing the oboeplaying of John de Lancie, Lothar Koch, M. Tabuteau, Diana Doherty, John Mack, Douglas Boyd etc. etc., this page would hold one or two 1-minute clips for each, so everybody will know what they are talking about.
Having such a Sound Gallery would make it much easier to discuss all the aspects of oboeplaying, American/European style and all that.
I imagine it could function like this: You send me a clip or two (or point to a location where these can be heard) where the oboist of your choise play in a manner you think is characteristic for that player, that makes him/her stand out. Everybody is free to submit anyone they like, some oboist they think deserve special attention. Favourite teachers common to two or more oboists.
I guess the list will be alfabethical, ordered by continents.
Befiore proceeding with this, I'd like to hear what you think about this "Sound Gallery" idea.
