one other thing i do that i'm convinced lengthens my reeds' lives is that whenever i finish playing, whether practice, rehearsal or concert, i dunk my reed in the vial (which i always put fresh water in daily) and blow the water out of the reed end by blowing through the tube quite forcefully. i do this a couple of times before replacing the reed in the case. And like CJ, I rotate my reeds aggressively and when I get a GREAT reed, I nurse it so it's there for important rehearsals and concerts, or when I need to have a great practice session to coddle my ego...
