For me, I tend to play with a firm embouchure on the low notes - I know many books and teachers say you need a relaxed embouchure for the low notes, but I find a firm embouchure and plenty of breath support helps with the control of the low notes.
I know it works for me, and I apply the same principle when playing saxes - in fact, I've applied this aspect of sax and bass clarinet playing to oboe.
