It's usually better not to screw around too much with the reeds.
Some people make up some pretty wonderful humidifying contraptions, and have humidifying cases. This is fine, except the environment we usually have to play in is not as wonderfully humid. With that in mind, I just make reeds under normal winter conditions, and store them under normal winter conditions. Then, I just leave the reeds as they are in the case.
If you read one of my earlier posts I talk about making reeds only to feel, without binding yourself to the crow. This is exactly the problem in winter: a reed that FEELS good when scraped a certain way under very dry conditions may not fit the prescribed 3-octave C-crow.
If the reed feels great, but has a weird crow, would you change it just to have the crow? I know I wouldn't...
