I don't get how you figure the "theoretical" optimum reed length. By coincidence, the ratio of cane to oboe is about the same as the ratio of mm to inches--25.4. But how do you know that the "optimum" ratio isn't 25.3 or 25.6? If the inch was standardized to a different metric equivalent in 1959, would the theoretical optimum reed length be different?
