I am a long time Laubin player. I looked through my files for the note that Paul Laubin sent me with my new oboe. He says, in capital letters and bold type, DO NOT USE BORE OIL. He goes on to say...if water collecting in the tone holes is a problem, use a very small amount of liquid wax, applied to the bore with a feather. There is an additional note at the end of the page that says...FOR ROSEWOOD ONLY: once a year use a small amount of boiled linseed oil in the bore. I'm on my 4th Laubin oboe and have had one crack....in the top of one of my bells. While Paul Laubin has very strong opinions about his oboes and how to care for them, it surprises me that he would yell at someone about bore oiling?!
