oboeblank,
how much variation in quality did you experience within the AK line of lorees? i'm in the market for a new oboe and doubt that i will have the opportunity to sample anywhere near that many oboes. how many oboes would you say it is necessary to sample to have a pretty high level of confidence of getting a suitable one? i did recently sample two AKs side by side. i liked both but found that i was having some trouble slurring up to a high D, whereas with the Royal i also had the opportunity to sample, there was no such problem (but the Royal is too heavy for my aging bones, i fear). the dealer told me that she typically sends out two and almost always only gets one back (i wanted to meet the dealer at least once before pulling the trigger so did my sampling onsite).
