Allow me to be the black sheep of the group. I believe Grenadilla has a brighter sound to it than a Rosewood, Cocobolo, or Kingwood. As one mentioned, the Rosewood cracks more. In crontrast, it seems the Cocobolo cracks less than a typical Grenadilla.

Rosewoods and Cocobolos to me definetely seem to have a mellower sound. Furthermore I would say I could project better on a Grenadilla Loree than a Rosewood. I've also tried Cocobolo and Grenadilla Laubins, and the Grenadilla seems a bit brighter and project a bit more, but this is my own personal opinion.

I recently purchased a plastic top joint Loree Royale, as Jan Eberle turned me on to plastic joints. The sound quality does not seem that much different from a Grenadilla, and the fact that I live in a foreign country where the winters are harsh and the summers are unbelievably humid, and I believe there are few if any qualified 5-star repairmen in this part of the world (Korea), makes me fear getting a crack and having to send it back to the States for repair. Besides, a plastic top joint will at least let me use it as long as I wish as the bore will not blow out.
