In my opinion, if you can get the Jones reeds to play for any decent length of time, then good for you. I never have been able to. But, as far as a plastic oboe goes, a number of them can sound really good. The instrument I was playing on was a plastic selmer student model, but I'm told that it sounds extremely good for a plastic. Granted, I do like my wooden sound much much better and you can't beat the keys on the full conservatory, but I did play on the plastic for 2 1/2 years with some very nice sounding solos.
