Store bought reeds as every good oboe player knows are not dependable on a long term basis. But for those like us who do not have the chance to get our hands on some great playing reeds, i find La Voz to be an execellent alternative, just don't try rico. Vandorens seem to need some final scraping before play so it figures, plus they are extremely expensive.
The best is to look for an oboist thay makes their own reeds and play them and see if they could sell them to you. Of course finally you will still have to learn on how to make some your own, if you are gonna get really serious on the playing.
