English horn loose bell ring adhesive
Author: mberkowski

I play an early 1970's Loree English horn - this week the bell ring became unglued and I would like to reattach it.

The residual adhesive on there now looks to me like it could have been shellac (which I have on hand). It is brittle and can be chipped away - if it is shellac I can probably gently soften the remnants away with denatured alcohol. If it's something else, that may not be as easy.

To reattach it, would adhesive should I use? I have shellac and super glue. Would contact cement be better? I am afraid I would make a mess with contact cement. And should adhesive be applied around the whole circumference of the bell wood or just a few points?

Thank you
-Michael
