The oil had turned gummy.
Only use key oil made specifically for woodwind instruments or sewing machine oil as that doesn't contain resin that will gum things up.
DON'T use 3-in-1 oil as that's just for door hinges and has no place anywhere near any woodwind mechanisms. If your repairer uses it, then take your oboe and run away very fast.
