Greetings!
My suggestion would be to be sure and "Perch" with your "sit bones" on the edge of the chair--your tummy will be out in space.

I was taught that if not playing standing, I should be "perched" at all times. This allows for further downward expansion of the abdomen, and yes, you can get in more air this way.

If you use a "musician's chair" put small blocks (about 1 cm thick?) of wood under the FRONT legs. Now the chair won't feel like it is dumping you out of it.

I'm an asthmatic and needed to know every trick in the book to get "more air". :)
I'm also almost 60, so that unfortunate post-menopausal tummy has now made an appearance, and being plump to start with doesn't help. But still, in spite of all of this...the perching technique works well. Be careful and make sure that you ARE perched on the chair (don't risk falling off), but this may help. Oh, and there is a string attaching your head towards the ceiling, too!! :)

Oboefully,
Deb G.
