Re: Reeds... end of the road... how to tell?

If it at all helps I can suggest two reputable mail order reed makers:

http://www.nielsen-woodwinds.com/
Nielsen offers reeds from various reed makers with each thread color being a different maker. I am partial to purple.

Meg Cassell makes wonderful reeds. She also uses Chudnow tubes on her professional reeds for those curious about those, interesting effect, I prefer the regular though.

... oh and I tried Hall too

http://www.halldoublereed.com/
This gal makes and sells oboe reed cases on ebay and after buying a couple (gotta love the Crayola tin) I tried out the reeds too. They are legit. The reeds I received were quite a bit harder than I expected medium strength to be, but they played well in tune (until I tried adjusting one down a notch... oi!). I love that multi-colored thread though, neat effect.

...

And here's a far more extensive list of reed makers:

(A familiar name from above is on this list)

Regards,
Stephen
