What are your favorites. I have used the standard wax-in-a-tube as well as Peter's favorite, lanolin. I find both of these tend to set up during a session and make the joints hard to separate. I clean the corks periodically with 99% isopropyl alcohol and then reapply.
Anybody have anything to recommend?

I swear by La Tromba cork grease - I've used it for decades and never had any problems.

Vaseline is too thin for use as cork grease - ideally you want a much heavier grease that doesn't soak into the cork.

I use a mixture of poultry fat, or lard, beeswax ( about 50-50),l heated up with a little honey and powdered borax, to act as a flux and preservative. The stuff lasts years and keeps the cork moist and supple

I tried Cooper's suggestion and so far like the Vaseline the best. It lasts for a couple of weeks and is cheap and easy. I just rub a small amount on with the tip of my little finger. It works nicely too on the o-rings of my MCW staples.
I don't have a good situation now for making up a mixture of anything (living in a motor home).
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

The problem with Vaseline is once it soaks through the cork, it can destroy the bond with the glue, so the corks will peel off.

I have been using Selmer's "Tuning slide & Cork Grease" for about 5 years. It is honey like consistency. I am not sure what it is made out of.
Pros are: It works and it does not leave any residues. I like that. I need to use very little on the joint corks and reed cork. Not too loose, not too tight, just right.
Cons are: The bottle gets greasy even when I did not spill any. It seems to crawl over and leak out. It appears to have very high surface tension. I have to wash the bottle with soap and water every few months. A bit messy to have it around.
Anyone have any experience with this products?
