Re: Oboe playing and clarinet emboucher

As you already play double lip on clarinet, you shouldn't have any problems with a sore top lip on oboe, so it's a good thing you already play with a double lip embouchure - you can't put your teeth directly on the oboe reed unless you're doing special effects or up in the extreme altissimo register.

Have you got a teacher? You're best getting guidance from an oboe teacher as soon as you get your oboe.

The oboe embouchure is like a smile with the sides of the mouth stretched sideways (but not excessively) and keep the oboe held up high. Adopt a European posture with both your elbows out and wrists bent so the hands form upward angles (but not too acute) against your forearms instead of curving down at the ends of your arms and looking like a praying mantis. Your fingers will be at angles to the keywork on oboe like this \\\ /// instead of more straight on (perpendicular to the instrument) like ||| ||| as on clarinet.
