Cane Diameter - Selecting Gouger

Hello everyone and again a big thanks for all the responses so far.

I am going to buy an gouger any day now.
This is what i am going to do for my research project:

I have selected two shapers that i will focus my learning and research on. Two outer extremes. First i shall start with the smallest shaper on the market and then the largest. This i am going to do.

My question is what cane diameter shall i buy gouger for? I am all out of ideas on why i should select any of the diameters.
