re: lifting LH 1 on a standard, conservatory system oboe,
my teacher showed me on the oboe that this as a way of making downward interval transition, more sure. Like half-hole D down to the lower G and lower. He said that when the finger rehits the LH1 key, it tends to trap the air, better. It also seemed to work better, too.
