I wear a splint when I am sleeping - very helpful. Also, the Fhred device is easier to use if you shorten the stick and rest it in the crook of your lap. It allows more freedom of movement. My oboe has a ring above the thumb-rest (for a neck strap???) and my Fhred is hooked to the ring. My oboe can move in all directions easily and my right hand is just stabilizing it instead of bearing all the weight. I've tried putting the stick on the chair but it can slip and is more limiting.

Good Luck!
