Has anyone worked on converting an old gouger to a functional reed profiler?
I am trying to think outside the box here.
I am fine with profiling before tying or after.
I just purchased a couple of used gougers and I am keeping one as a backup to my regular machine but the third one is open for experimentation. I have been toying with the idea of just investing in a cheap profiler to help me knock out a couple layers of cane before getting my hands dirty. I feel like a waste a lot of time just scraping of the first few layers.
Structurally they are designed in a similar fashion. I would have to develop a profile template and a holding system for the reed.
Again not trying to make finished reeds on this. I just want to move the starting place up a notch.
