 High F#...
Author: Loliver

Hello all ( and Happy Christmas and such)

Does anyone know a good fingering for F#, and by good I mean practical to follow on from F?

I know its a long shot, but I thought I'd ask!

Oh, and its on a Thumbplate Dual-System, which makes it all very awkward I know....but any help would be much appreciated!

Play high F and lift LH2 while still keeping the G# key held down - see if that works.

On ring key conservatoires, use the upper side key (the Ab-Bb trill key) and on pure thumbplates, either lift the thumb off the thumbplate or use the side key.

Chris P- What exactly do you mean by lift LH2?

The fingering I've been using is High F, but remove THumbplate, which was easier on my old oboe, as the RH side key just cancelled thumbplate, whereas on dual system it activates G# instead...

Play altissimo F (8ve1 oxoG#|oxxEb) and raise LH finger 2 off to give this fingering:

8ve1 oooG#|oxxEb

The G# key will keep the LH2 fingerplate closed, but raising LH finger 2 off uncovers the aperture.

I personally play F# as:

3rd 8ve, xxo|xxo

It sounds fantastic on my Fossati, at least. Note I also use 3rd 8ve, hxoGb+Eb|oxx for my F. (h being half hole)

EDIT: I didn't read the thumbplate part the first part around. So I'm guessing that would translate to 3rd 8ve, no TP, xxo|xxo ?

He has a dual system, so your regular fingering is fine.

BTW, I recommend you experiment with the many fingerings here:
