Hi all,
I want to present a round-the-world recital, and I'm having a hard time finding something appropriate from an African composers. I don't have many connections to that huge continent. Can anyone suggest a piece or two that I might be able to find? My ideal would be to find a living composer. Could be solo or with piano.
Many thanks.

Now, if you would be satisfied with African-AMERICAN, I could help you:
William Grant Still, Incantation and Dance. Often played as a flute piece, but written for oboe AFAIK. Kinda killer. Fun to play, challenging but do-able.
Still was an oboist, conductor, and a symphonic composer who is getting a bit more play these days.

Thanks, Susan. I'm familiar with him and am indeed interested for another time...
What's AFAIK?
