Try exhaling (through your mouth!) as often, and as fully as you can. After you do that, inhaling comes naturally  :)

Before long passages I find it helpful to hyper-ventilate twice or three times; quickly empty your lungs, breathe in as much as you can (repeat once or twice as needed), let out the excess and you are ready to play.

Don't play with over-full lungs either. You are almost never out of air! Breathe in fully, let out the excess and then play, is the general rule.
