I oil once a year. I use a trimmed feather (I narrow the feather) to ensure no oil gets into the keyword. I put a drop of oil on the tip of the feather and swirl it a few times. Be careful to use only a drop or so of oil.

I haven't given much thought on how long to wait after oiling the bore. From my observation the oil is absorbed/coated upon application.

Oiling is a personal decision .............. I have never found it to affect the timbre of the instrument. I oiled my new Oboe after I found and repaired an incipient crack in the trill key. No problems since ................... I oiled the bore of my previous two Oboes.

I use a tropical mix from Carlos Coelho.
