I totally agree with ohsusan, this sounds to me like heresay and conjecture. Not necessary badly meant by Dutchy, however, I do object against his/her message even more...

To point out an unfounded risk for children, will easily cause parents to react based on fear more than use their common sense. Aren't we talking about the same chidren who will drop a cookie on the floor and happily pick it up and continue to eat it? And even so no harm is done!

In this day and age that music and other personal creativity and expression is losing massive terrain to passive mass-entertainment through Apple and Nintendo et al...

I'm glad my children play woodwind instruments (and I do not allow smartphones or electronic devices at the dinner table btw ). Perhaps in the US and UK there seems to be better stimulus for music lessons at school. Be glad and proud of it! Schools in The Netherlands seem to pay no attention to music that I can discover, other than the odd 'topic of the week'.

Anyways, I'd rather use my common sense rather than base my life on sad statistics and unlikely interpretations. Some people will have you believe that cash money is extremely ridden by dangerous bacteria or will say anything to scare you into buying an expensive ultra sonic reed cleaner.

Personally, I don't have too much time for that. Besides, worrying will make me forget about breathsupport and will tighten my embouchure. That alone will send me straight back to sounding like a manhandled duck :).

Cheers,

Joepie
