I have been making reeds for sometime. Now my eyes are not giving me clear enough sight these days. I make more frequent mistakes and spending more and more time on making and fussing with reeds. I would rather wish to use the time to play and enjoy the music instead.
So, I am thinking about buying reeds instead of making them. I make two distinctly different sounds on two distinctly different oboes; bright (old French school sound) on Rigoutat Classique oboe and sort of dark (cross between German and American school sound) on Laubin oboe. Some music cry out for dark and creamy tone while others delicately bright and peachy tone. I was able to provide myself the sounds I want through both long and short scrapes.
I thought this is a good forum to bring my question to because there are wide variety of oboe connoisseurs from Europeans, Asians, Down Under folks, and Americans here. Any suggestion where I buy reeds from and subtleties?
