Music is about enjoying playing. This is why I get really peeved when there are discussions around how hard it is to play the oboe or how difficult it is to make reeds: I have disproven both these ideas and it seems that a good number of others share my views.
6 months is a really short time to be entrusted with a solo, regardless of its length, so asking for a double was a good idea.
If you have not played other instruments before this, give yourself time and be patient while you develop the physical abilities. After years of playing, then your body will take care of itself and you will be able to play with your ears, not your mouth and fingers. After years of doing that, you'll be able to trust your ears to work automatically and play from your soul, concentrating on the character of music rather than solely what is written on the page. Really good brass sections understand the difference between playing loudly and the forte character.
I truly believe that music is the only language from God humans are able to perceive. I believe that the best players are nothing but clean conduits of music's character: the message becomes different from each player and to each listener, because that is the nature of our relationship to the Spirit.
