In Italy, it is common to have pitches around 443-445 depending on which city you play in. (443 being basically a standard) Heavy reeds are also very typical. I thought the acoustics in that studio were really unforgiving, as you can hear from all the other masterclass videos from the same orchestra. Surely there were some things that weren't very good, but Hartmann and Doherty's low Ds almost didnt speak, and this virtually unknown guy just nailed it, ha!
