I used fish-skin for many many years. I never liked it. It just turns to mush when wet... yek! I tried clear kitchen plastic wrap and then I tried plumber's Teflon tape. They are better than the fish-skin in my opinion. I prefer (very slightly) Teflon tape over clear plastic because it seems to handle water (being wet) better. Now I started to wrap the reeds all the way down to the end of thread next to cork before starting to scrape. So far it works for me. I was curious if I missed any ill effects that I did not know about.
