 Re: Ventilated reed cases?

Most reed cases won't be completely airtight anyway, and most instrument cases aren't so there is a chance for a small amount of air to circulate.

So far I haven't had any of my reeds go mouldy in all the time I've been playing when kept in the reed case and stored in the double oboe/cor case which is zipped up in a case cover and then kept in an outer cover (the outer covering of a Fel/Gewa/Orly case).

So long as you blow out and blot any excess moisture in the reed after playing, the reeds should dry out well enough in their cases to prevent mould. Keeping wet reeds in airtight cases (hermetically sealed) will have more chance of growing mould.

The opinions I express are my own.
