When you play in the upper register - there are many alternate fingerings - I will use the one with the best color and/or its relationship to the next group of notes - to facilitate technique.

As for the various C fingerings -I do use them to create different tone color - similar to the use of the harmonic octave A - to create a certain mood - especially when concluding a phrase.

It's good to explore different fingerings and subsequent tone colors - it adds spice to your playing. Each Oboe has its own charms - you need to explore those attributes one by one.
