I have heard, from time to time, of oboists who play jazz -- never heard them, myself. I doubt if there is much published music for jazz oboe. I do now and then see a book called "Microjazz" for oboe listed on various sites. I don't know if it is any good or not. But if you have a command of the instrument and like jazz, there's no reason why you shouldn't play jazz on an oboe. Maybe look for a jazz flute book, for starters. Or learn to improvise from a fake book? (There are plenty of generic "how to do jazz" books around. "Jazz Improv for Dummies"? - if it doesn't exist, it should.) Susan
