 Slur offs

OK, this little problem's been nagging at me a while now

When I do slur-offs, they sound so wimpy and apologetic, especially for end of phrases and final bars, i think i'm automatically backing off my air rather than sustaining it steady, because i keep thinking there needs to be a lilting dip in sound to any slur-off

For example, the first two Barret studies slur-offs at end of phrases & final bars

First we tongue the half note on sustained air from last note and hold it 2 beats, vibrato methinks (?) and then move fingers (no tonguing) to shift to next quarter note on the same vibing air (?)

Do we tongue stop, shut down the aperture or just stop blowing to finish these?

I'm going by the notion that in a slur, the first note is always accented with just a hint more air, and then the slur-off note is sounded just a hint lighter in comparison, a bit backed off, so there's a lilt in the actual slur-off itself, which works fine when the slur-off notes are in tandem with strong-weak beats

But, in these etudes, the end note is slurred off on the 3rd beat of 4/4, so that's usually a semi-strong beat, not the weaker 2nd & weakest 4th beats

so how do we shape the end note for slur-offs like this?
The pulse wants a fairly strong note there

keep hoping i could make final note seem to "hang in the air" awhile, even in a slur-off note, so that usually means a bit more 'ping' in the vibe ... but the extra air for the ping cancels the slur-off lilt ... so at the moment in general practice i'm just backing off some air, result unsatisfactory wimpy finish

what to do?
