 Re: projection vs loud

Interesting question -- no easy short answers

My take on it at the moment

Color, and projection, not the same thing
Two entirely different things

Color is how the notes are shaped, phrased, inflected, articulated, lipped, blown, vibed, emoted, evoked to create an ambience or feeling which hopefully touches and connects with audience

Projection is how the sound carries, and how far it carries out there, with the color you imparted to it so the audience actually hears oboe above the orchestra rather than through it

Seems a logical first step would be to physically identify, in your own body, how you already produce color and projection

So perhaps start here – hum your fave song in your everyday crooning hum
Then sing the same song meaningfully in the shower like an opera singer
Repeat singing the same as in the shower, but in other rooms

Analyze what you physically did to get the change in delivery, and what happens in other rooms?

Next, identify the oboe techniques you need to achieve similar results, the difference between humming and singing your oboe

Got any thoughts on this already?
What does your teacher say?
