Beating a dead horse, here. Have already sent the below on to Zac privately, as I was away from my home base since last Thursday.
"Zac,
Steel wool is inadvisable to use on ceramic, as the steel fibers can get embedded in the ceramic, thus messing up sharpening. Better to use a wet 3M green fiber pad & about a tablespoon or so of Bon Ami powder cleanser. I use this combination to clean my ceramic sharpening rods & it works great.
Best,
john"
N. B. I imagine Bar Keepers Friend would also most likely work fine with the face cloth. The cleanser works better on a sopping wet cloth, however, as the calcium carbonate in the cleanser fizzes when combined with water to help the cleaning action. The green 3M pad really speeds things along. Just don't use this stuff on your bathroom or kitchen tile, as it will etch/scratch the dickens out of the tile.
