... hullo Croydon! i used to live near there, 'way out at the end of the line past Purley at Caterham, used to switch trains at Croydon to get to London, traffic must be much busier now than it was in the Beatles era
i've noticed a firm 'barrel' type bulge under the ribs with brass players too, even if they're portly, seems it develops with the muscles wind players use to sustain and project air flow, singers have a 'barrel' front as well, but it doesn't usually show as much as wind instrument players -- hm, do sprinters and marathon runners have it ...?
never heard of the caveat re the bulge and oboe playing -- maybe it was a stiff upper lip joke? as in "oboe, want to play oboe? don't be daft!"
