Hi Walter,
Tom Stacy recommends the following:
Tie at: 0.59 to 0.60 mm on 27 mm tube
Playing length: 0.55-0.57 mm
Start tip (IOW outer tip corners) 53 mm from bottom of tube.
Thickest part of heart on spine 0.55-0.58 mm
Gouge: 0.68-0.72 mm down centerline of gouged piece using the Dan Ross gouger.
Don't mess with wire & don't "finish" it to the extent of an oboe reed. Consequently, they tend to last much longer.
