Hi CJ, can you give more details about warpage? I'm not sure I know what you mean, or even if I would recognize it.

The size and shape of the staple, together with the shape and curvature of the cane, govern the amount of "springing" between the blades which evenly presses the blades together from staple to tip.
This springing effect is brought about by twisting the edges of the cane through almost 90 degrees (at the edges, the top of the staple under the thread). This warping of the cane is deliberate and functional, and so I'm certain it is not the "warpage" to which you refer.

What are the symptoms, and effects?
