From what I have personally looked into, Loree Royales are supposed to just sound more covered, so that perhaps a reed that doesn't sound quite as refined is usable. A good friend of mine swears that if he has a mediocre reed, he will use an old Marigaux oboe because he says it "darkens" the tone, whatever that means.

Other than that, I would say reeds probably sound alot more alike than you think!
