Theres alot of interesting suggestions here. I will say though John, that i've had my teacher do pretty much the same thing that you described to my octave key tone holes, plus I've sent it to a local repairman about a month ago who is very good and he said he would do whatever he could with them as well.

Just a thought. I took a break this weekend from playing. the last time I picked up my oboe was friday night, and now on sunday afternoon without playing at all, I checked and my octave keys still show water on cigarette paper after only one quick blow in them. I will admit that I used to make sure my oboe was completely dry everytime i was done playing but now its become so hard to achieve that I don't anymore.
