You can get a used Fox 333 for around $1200. I'm an adult amateur who's currently playing one, after using a Selmer 1492 rental instrument for six months, and I like it a lot. It has left-hand F and the low Bb, and I don't really need all the full conservatory trill keys, etc. for what I want to do with it.
I chose it because it was the best compromise between quality and price in a new plastic oboe, since I knew I was too inexperienced to know whether a used oboe was any good, and I didn't have access to a qualified advisor.
