binding can be prevented by using humidifiers (search for a recent thread) to regulate the interior humidity of your case..i can always tell when my oboes are reacting to dry weather...first, the joints come together with little resistance due to the shrinking wood...second, the ring on the end of the bell sometimes gets to the point of being able to be rotated around the wood...when the latter happens, it's a bad sign. I haven't had any key binding episodes since i started using humidifiers.
