Has anyone had experience with Pomarico Crystal mouthpieces? I was wondering about their quality and playability?

I have 2 for bass cl which were marketed earlier by GG [believed to be Gino Gioffi] facings #1 and 3. Dave S refaced [opened up] the #1 for me, plays very well on my Selmer, however, I seem to prefer the #3 for comm. band and musicals playing. They are better [IMHO] than my Sel C* and my [good] Bundy 3, far better than others I've played. Just DON'T DROP THEM!! Don

Don... A little useless trivia:

Actually the Pomarico "GG" mouthpieces were named (and made for) Ephriam Gigi, who was a clarinetist and conductor...GBK

TKS, GBK, I guess Dave S and I have been "concluding" in error. The truth is often hard to find, here and there!! [Still VG mps!}. Don

The Pomarico "GG's" were good mouthpieces, and used by many fine clarinetists. They played fine - a little restrictive but quite adequate. I never followed up to get them worked on. I had 2 of them, but since sold them to colleagues.

I believe they were the supplier of the blanks for Vandoren's crystal mouthpieces until they (Vandoren) decided to discontinue their crystal line.

My primary mouthpiece is a very fine (selected from about 30) Vandoren crystal (which was very slightly worked on).

I did store away a few extra selected Vandoren crystals as well, just in case the floor comes up to bite my primary mouthpiece...GBK

I have spent the past 2 years looking for the "right" mouthpiece.
Worked my way from Selmer C*, to Vandoren B45, 5RVlyre, Fobes, Garrets (nice mouthpieces), and trialing from Woodwind and Brasswind abot 12 mouthpieces. With my instructor, and lots
of blowing, found that the Pomarico "Emerald Mellow" was
a phenominal mouthpiece that made my lower register sing,
and the 12th (and more) leaps glassy smooth (pun intentional).
I then got more 6 of the Pomarico "Emerald Mellows" and redid the
trial. Picked the best of the lot based on play testing.

Never looked back.

I have two Pomarico crystals. One is the Diamond model which is very good. The other is an older Horvath model, which is I believe
similar to the new Saphires. It too is an excellent piece.
I would recommend Pomarico to anyone looking for a crystal MPC. They are the best on the market, and priced 20-30 dollars less than others. By the way, Pomarico makes an excellent wooden MPC as well.

I played a Pomerico(Ruby I think) for a couple of years.I really loved the sound of it but found it a little difficult to play up to pitch.A short barrel solved the problem. The only reason I don,t play it now is because I,ve gone back to 1010s.

I play refaced Pomarico crystals on both soprano and bass clarinets (the bass clarinet is actually under the "Mitchell Lurie Premium" label) and I like them, obviously, or I wouldn't play them. But in general I'd have to say that, out of the box, Pomaricos tend to be a bit too closed for my taste -- I always end up opening the tips when I reface them. Nice quality and workmanship, however.

I play a Pomarico crystal on my bass... i actually own 2 of the mouthpieces.
the facing i use is an unusual one though. HB, stands for Henri Bok and you have to talk to the man to obtain them. However they are more open and create a beautiful sound! Almost all of Henri's students play on them and so do I. I went through about 10 or 15 other mouthpieces before i got to this one and i don't see myself ever moving form it. It has a consistancy from low C to Super-super C that I have not found in anything else.
feel free to contact me with any questions abotu this.

best wishes

I fellow I know plays a Henri Bok model crystal Pomarico bass clarinet mouthpiece, and IMHO it's too open for him, he sounds breathy and seems to have trouble playing with a centered tone at low dynamic levels. I suspect it's not a mouthpiece for everyone.
