 Regarding Selmers....

Hello

I was wondering what was all the fuss about the selmer series 9 and like people saying their bad...? Can someone tell me why this is such and please give like a general overview on Selmer clarinets.

I personally own one series 9 but it hasn't been played for ages and all the foam and pads are broken. What should I do with it? It should be also noted that I come from 6 years of sax so the "terrible" might just be either me, myself, or the oldness of the clarinet

Thanks for the future answers

I've never heard anyone disparage the Selmer Series 9. They didn't last long on the market, so perhaps they didn't sell particularly well, but everything I've heard about them is pretty standard high praise from those who love Selmers.

The Centered Tone does tend to get a lot of the glory these days, when talk of old Selmers comes up, but I've never heard anything bad about the Series 9.

I don't have any general overview of Selmers, though I play them, but here are few reviews of some vintage Selmer models.

1955 Centered Tone: http://thejazzclarinet.blogspot.com/2012/06/jazz-clarinet-gear-review-1955-selmer.html

1952 Centered Tone: http://thejazzclarinet.blogspot.com/2013/09/jazz-clarinet-gear-review-1952-p-series.html

1958 Centered Tone (in A): http://thejazzclarinet.blogspot.com/2017/02/jazz-clarinet-gear-review-1958-selmer.html

1944 Balanced Tone: http://thejazzclarinet.blogspot.com/2012/12/jazz-clarinet-gear-review-1944-selmer.html

1981 Selmer Series 10S: http://thejazzclarinet.blogspot.com/2012/06/jazz-clarinet-gear-review-selmer-10s.html

I'd gladly add a Series 9 to my collection, if one came my way. I'd also love to add an R.I. and a Selmer Albert. I'm just a fan of these instruments across the board.

Eric

Buffet players don't tend to like Selmers, so that's usually the problem.

The Series 9 Selmers I've tried were wonderful, an Eb and a basset horn!

I've been enjoying playing my Series 9 Bb and A full Boehms all last week.

Only time I had trouble was when I didn't put the barrel on my A far enough after a quick change (and it was dark) and found it a struggle to play up to pitch in the left hand and throat notes, only noticing afterwards I left the barrel out by 4mm.
