wagner bass clarinet parts

Hi all!

I was just wondering if there are any printed Bass Cl. parts that have been transposed for Wagner operas anywhere, and if anyone knows how I can get them. It will save me major headaches!!

http://www.lucksmusiclibrary.com has some sections in various operas transcribed; however, a quick perusal of the complete scores doesn't show the complete part transcribed.

Sorry, but every serious bass clarinet player needs to:

1. Read bass clef

2. Transpose

I did a session on this and other topics last summer at the University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium.

For my bass clarinet students I begin teaching easy transposition by 8th grade and bass clef by high school.

Every clarinet player should know transposition up a step, up a half step, and down a half step anyway.

If you find this hard (and who doesn't), buy beginning method books and learn transposition on simple tunes, slowly graduating to harder music.

I would also add that Wagner, and of course Richard Stauss wrote ALOT of excellent parts for bass clarinet..there used to be a good amount of it available in compiliation bass clarinet exerpts books.

Well worth looking at..have a listen to the Ring and I will assure you will hear a good deal of bass clarinet...Strauss has a very nice solo in Don Quixote as well...and etc.al. Mahler 9 mvt 1 very nice bass clarinet as well..Mahler 6, 7 etc.

Thanks for all your help. Mind I mention here that I do not have problem generally with transposition, it is the combo of bass clef and Bass Cla in A parts that sometimes throws me to oblivion..
I am fully aware of the miracles of Bass cl. parts, as I have been playing it for a long time, but I guess there are always things that challenge us...this way life never gets boring...

I think Mr. Drapkin (of the bass clarinet excerpt book fame) has a book of transposed treble clef parts in the works. Something to look forward to while you practice your transposition!
