Question 1) - do you play scales and etudes daily?
YES-From the beginning it was drummed into me that scales were of the utmost importance, that so much of learning a piece quickly and being a passable sightreader was learning to recognize, very quickly, scale passages, broken scales, and scales in 3rds.
I try to spend at least 15/20 mins. a day on etudes as well. I'm one of those people who doesn't feel ready to play until I've warmed up for a while, plus I like etudes.
I was really kind of surprised when I looked over the survey results and saw so many people did not play scales everyday.
Question 2) - do you obsess about your setup to the detriment of your practise time?
NO-I never got into the habit. I studied with guys who were great players, but were not gadget freaks. They just teed it up and played.
Question 3) - are you brand driven to the point of never trying an alternative, no matter how attractive?
DON'T KNOW-I've played R13's forever. Does this mean that I'm brand driven? I don't know.
Question 4) - do you consider fluency at scales and arpeggios has a discernable affect on your overall technique?
YES-Absofreakinglutely. This is technique.
Question 5a) - if you encounter a difficult passage in a piece, do you start slowly and build the speed up incrementally (avoiding learned mistakes)?
