I heard that Paquito has a new instrument that is basically a clarinet with saxophone keys. Does anyone know who the maker is? What is looks like? What it is actually called?

I've seen him pictured on one of his CDs with a black lacquered Yamaha Custom alto sax, though the photo is reversed.

A colleague of mine went to the concert he had at Marshal University and he said that Paquito was taling about his new instrument that was wood but had saxophone system of keys. I didn't actually see it so I wanted to get more information about it.
I stil can't get over how wonderful his concert was when I saw him at the University of Maryland Clarinet Fest a couple years ago. He is incredible at clarinet and sax.

Maybe your friend was confused? Last few times I saw Paquito perform in person, he was always using one of Luis Rossi's clarinets. Since these are custom instruments, and look a little different than Buffet/Selmer, etc., maybe that explains the confusion?

I was going to say he's also pictured on the same album with a rosewood Rossi, also reversed in the photo.
I just looked on his site and found this picture:

Is it a Reform Boehm? Or just a different arrangement of the LH forked Eb mechanism?

It's not a Reform-Boehm. I think it's just a full Boehm without the low Eb, in other words a normal Boehm with three extra keys - fork Bb, articulated G# and LH Eb key.

Chris P - it isn't the same as the "German bore" model on the Rossi website, which have other additional keywork. My guess is that it a one-off made for him; an ordinary Boehm plus forked Eb/Bb.

I agree w: John 25, the pic is a "3/4 Full Boehm". I have an older Pruefer, just like P's, except for the C#/G# tone hole/pad location, in front, yes, but out of the ring-lines. Except for A transposition use [or a full horn mid staff Bb [if in tune]] the low Eb is not of much use. Don

Paquito's new instrument is called a Paquinet. It is a clarinet with saxophone keys and ergonomics. It is made by a small woodwind manufacturer located in New York City. They can be reached via their website. I don't know how to post a link, but the website address is manningcustom.com.

I was at Manning's the other day. I did not get to play the Paquinet but I did see one. He was not too forthcoming with information about it, but it basically looks like a closed hole clarinet. I recall seeing a vent on the left hand first finger E/B key. I guess you could say its like a bass clarinet on a soprano clarinet body. It did not look like it used saxophone fingerings, but I could be wrong about that.

P.S. By the way, Manning make a custom line of saxophones, reeds for all the saxes and clarinet, has some very cool alto and tenor sax cases with covers, and has a full line of mouthpieces. The mouthpieces are an original blank of his own making. I just bought an alto mouthpiece that was reasonably priced and simply amazing feeling & sounding. Check his stuff out if you can.
