 Wooden Lelandais age?
Author: John O'Janpa

I recently aquired an old wooden Lelandais mouthpiece. The logo is just barely partially legible in an oval at the bottom. (Can make out A Lelandais but not whatever else is there). The thing plays great.

Does anyone out there know when the last of these were manufactured?
I've done a search, but haven't come across any specific dates.
I'm just curious.

Mouthpiece dates to the early 1900.

I bet this is the same wooden Lelandais model that was supplied with Buffet clarinets of that era. (with the Buffet logo of course)

Thanks Vytas.

The part of the logo that I can make out looks like the one in the picture.

Interesting that it plays so well despite being say 100 years old and made of wood, rather than an exotic blend of rubber.

The logo reads:

"A. Lelandais, IVRY-LA-BATAILLE, France."

I had one of these and sold it. I couldn't get it to play, and my teacher, a semi-decent refacer, couldn't get it play altissimo.

I don't feel that it has very much in common with an old wooden Buffet I just acquired. The Lelandais blank was of a different shape and length.

It was a Lelandais made for Albert or Simple system clarinets. A. Lelandais Company made many different models to accommodate different clarinet designs and pitches of that era.

OMG, Vytas, you're the best! Yeah, I was so proud of finding this thing (I paid about $65 for it and four other mpcs), but I could never get it to do anything. It was quite old.

Thanks!

Bill.
